The Gong Bath, and What You Wore to It

Packing for a yoga or sound-healing retreat in Ubud comes down to one word: unrestricted.

If you are packing for a yoga or sound-healing retreat in Ubud, the rule is one word: unrestricted. Sleeves that move, waists that do not dig, fabric that breathes through ninety minutes of stillness or flow.

“Ninety minutes of stillness should ask nothing of your clothes.”

What do you actually wear to a sound bath?

You lie still for most of it — comfort beats performance-wear. Loose pants with a soft elastic waist and a breathable top let you forget your body is wearing anything at all. Natural fiber matters: sessions run warm, and synthetics trap heat.

And for the yoga classes?

Flowy pants work for slow and yin styles; for stronger flows, anything with a secure waistband. Ubud studios are open-air — you want fabric that dries between poses.

Temple etiquette on retreat days

Shoulders and knees covered. Loose, ankle-length pants meet the dress code and stay cool — one outfit serves the mat and the temple both.
