Materials

We choose fabrics for how they feel in a warm climate and how they age. Below are the materials in our collection today, and what the words on our labels mean.

GOTS-certified organic cotton

Most of what we make — flow pants, palazzo pants, tanks, bandeau tops — is 100% organic cotton certified to the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS). GOTS covers the whole chain: cotton grown without chemical fertilisers or pesticides, no GMO seed, and processing without harmful chemicals.

Organic cotton gauze

Our Sahara sets and gauze shirts are a double-layer organic cotton gauze: very light, open-weave, breathable. It creases naturally; that is part of the look.

Cotton slub

Kimonos and some shorts are cut from cotton slub — a cotton yarn spun with small irregularities that give the cloth a visible texture and a soft, dry hand.

Linen

Our linen shorts are 100% linen, a fibre from the flax plant. Flax grows in poor soil and needs far less water than cotton. Linen is strong, breathable and gets softer every wash.

Rayon-viscose

A few pieces, such as the Eclipse pants, are a rayon-viscose blend chosen for its silky drape. Rayon and viscose are made from wood cellulose.

Pre-washed

Our cotton fabric is washed before it is cut. That takes the shrinkage out first, so the size you buy is the size that comes out of your washing machine.

Naturally dyed

Some pieces are dyed with plant-based dyes. Tones vary slightly between pieces and soften a little with washing. Wash cold, inside out, and dry in the shade to keep the colour longest.

Care

Cold machine wash, no tumble dry, low iron. Linen and gauze: hang to dry while slightly damp and the creases fall out on their own.
